but I'll admit, having been patient and resisting giving deals just to do the 'cheaper' weddings just to do them is paying off. Just booked two very nice weddings... both in great parts of town, and high budget. Next year is turning out to be a great year so far, and I've only booked for first 6 months.

I'm in the same boat. My turning away jobs that neither fit my pay scale nor my interest has been the best thing for me. Being picky ftw!

I don't tell anyone... I usually don't budge on my price too much, so they don't call me back. Or, they'll send me an email saying they went w/ someone else. :dunno:

gotta get started somewhere. I did a couple of smaller weddings to begin with and get practice. Helped my buddy w/ others to learn the routine of a wedding... then I started booking telling friends. I did some personal stuff, and KDubb's wedding was the "it" wedding for me. Their pictures sells everything for me. I knew I had to knock their wedding out of the park... and in my mind, I did.

Just takes 1 to put you over the edge and get you noticed. Get enough people talking about you, and the shit will just roll to you. BUT, you have to get started doing something. :dunno:

So true. After I absolutely nailed some shots for a magazine my inbox blew up and all of the requests mentioned that article. Weddings (which I turned down,) commercial work, portraits and my book deal all from one shoot.

Also, being choosy allows you to pick clients with whom you have great chemistry, which means better photos, which means more clients.

i feel i learned a ton since starting out in july. as i go through the sets i took each month, i can see how they have improved and i started applying what i learned.

i'm passionate about it, and i feel anytime someone really likes something they will yearn for knowledge on it.

my problem is i have no patience. if shit doesn't just come to me i get pissed off. i also hope 5 years down the road i don't think i'm some god at photography and still suck. i see some people "settling" at their current skill which seems to lack some

what do you guys think about volunteering? like shooting a wedding for a couple/family that doesn't have a lot of money or something like that.

i dont know many wedding photographers, so i'm just brainstorming ideas for down the road
