I got some and could only just barely close the #1 at first... haven't been training them too much, but can get 4-5 reps now, at least with my right hand... left is really lagging :(

What do you attribute the nerve damage to?

when I started out I could barely get the #1...6 months later i'm closing the #3 with my right and left hand. If I didn't spend so much time bending stuff I would train for the COC cert.

I can close the trainer and the 1. Some guy at my gym had a two that he let me try (he brought them to the gym and was closing them in between sets of bench press... I was like whatever floats your boat). I got it like halfway closed, but that was the only time I've ever tried it.

I also have nerve damage in my forearm from playing guitar.

There's an Ivanko gripper that some people seem to prefer to the CoCs. It has adjustable resistance. I've never tried it, however.
