I finally got my AB1600 today... it's a lot of fun. I have zero accessories for it right now, so I haven't taken any legit pictures yet.

It barely fits in my Tamrac Expedition 8 (which I bought to carry this light in addition to other crap).

This thread sucks, I expect no replies.

Manual says 640 True Ws, 1600 effective. It's not the very brightest flash unit around, but the guy I bought it from used 4 of them at a time to light an entire basketball coliseum (the one here at tech in fact). He used to use two to light the entire Volleyball gymnasium.

I think he used to shoot at ISO 200, 2.8 at synch speed. Without lights I was shooting at 2.8, ISO 1600 at between 1/200th and 1/1000th depending on where the person was standing.

Well because the flashes were so bright compared to ambient, all he ever really got was the frozen image created by the flash with no light trails. I think the mark II synchs to 1/500th right?

no. 1/320th if you're lucky. Original 1d could do 1/500th.

f/2.8 at ISO 200 is not that bright

chances are the ambient lighting is very very very poor

the 1DmkII syncs at 1/250sec and maybe 1/320sec if you want to risk banding

I had to carry a huge pelican case with a d4, 1200 and 5 d4 heads up to the rooftop of the beverly hills hotel. it was a lot gayer than you not fitting a 1600 in your little bag.

1650 is 30 pounds by itself. d4 is like 25 pounds? 1200 is another 15, then a bunch of heads and extensions. :wtc: we are ghetto-french and don't use foam, just pack as much shit as possible into it.

no. I was out rigging a harness for this poor 17 year old girl we flew in from new york (who was quite awesome), and there were probably 8 or 9 people around me (AD, hair, make up, stylists, etc)- in the studio- then in the back room I year a huge crash and a huge yell and my boss came out and locked the door then I was the only one assisting for the next 8 hours. During the huge crash/yelling everyone looked at me awkwardly. Fucking circuits kept blowing and I was getting so pissed, ended up running cords from miles away it seemed.
