apart from just walking down the street, i have this list:

    http://en.nikon.com.hk/dealers.php

anyone have any experience from buying in honkers? from the first store i asked, a D80 kit was $AU300 cheaper, so looking good.

    wish me luck :x:

go to wing shing in mong kok.

The should have the cheapest prices with a good reputation. They should have a full nikon warranty.

nikon warranty i'm not worried about, cos it'll only be valid in the country of purchase (from what i understand)

and why 40D? from dpreview alone it is a lot more expensive than the D80, plus i'm used to nikons :)

i'm going to stanley st on hong kong island today, if i see that the 40D's are not too much more expensive than the D80, then i'll consider it, otherwise it's the D80.

any specific reasons other than some sort of "pc vs mac" comments?

No, d40x is a consumer camera, D80 is the pro-sumer/consumer. The D80 has not replacement yet.

Canon has their XXXd cameras as their consumers, their XXd ones as their prosumers, and their Xd as their pros.

Nikon does it differently/more confusingly. Nikons are good, but I prefer canon.

yeah i know the d40x is entry level, but it is their newest release, where as the d80 is older.

The D80 is a fantastic body. It will capture images every bit as good as you could hope for.

I've yet to see a photograph on this forum that my D80 could not capture, talent of photographer withstanding....

Anyone who says their camera body makes a difference in their photographs is a fucking moran.

Knowing this, I chose my D80 over the 30d because it felt better in my hands, and I liked the buttons/ergonomics better. It felt MUCH more intuitive.

I'm extremely happy with my choice.

    Are you white or chinese?

If you are foreign and go to places like stanley or hongkong island/causeway bay, they will rape you and then repeat.

well i bought it, and i'm very happy with the service i got from Photo Scientific on Hong Kong island.
very straight forward and no "sorry out of stock" bullshit. he even loaded it with a charged battery and his own sd card so icould play around with it. this shop was strictly cameras, no iFone and other knock off shit in store. everything came in the box, and wasn't taken to the back of the store to be bagged (read: swapped for some dodgo camera, which has been reported to have happened plenty of time for the shitty stores on nathan road.)

i'm not using it til i get back to melbourne, but going to play around with it for now. i also got a 4gb SD card and UV lense protector as well cos they were like $AUD30.

i'm sure if i shopped around a lot in every store and barganed my way down, i could of got it for cheaper, but this store has a good reputation according to Lonely Planet Hong Kong, and i think it was good dealing with this shop.

and i is white, but this store had all their prices ON the boxes, so there was no fucking around.
