When I try to use DVD Shrink on Cruel Intentions 3 i get some type of cyclic redundancy error and when I use DVD Decrypter I get read errors, if I choose to ignore read errors it just keeps on trying and never gets any further.

Any suggestions for a different program or fix to this problem?

Bad DVD? I've had one program or the other fail, but never both except when the DVD was too damaged to read properly.

But for Cruel Intentions 3, may I recommend:
Kobra 240 Strip Cut (SS5) CD Shredder

You don't know for certain that the DVD is encrypted. Many low budget DVDs don't use it. It's not free to use, and can be too expensive to use on a small (or crappy straight to DVD) movie.

it's produced by Columbia Tristar. I'd be very surprised if it wern't encrypted. The only ones I've seen that arn't are old-school DVD5 ones, like my copy of 10 Things I Hate About You, which I could just copy with Nero.

The disc could be damaged or it could have some advanced copy protection (again, I bet damaged, since copy protection costs money).

I've seen it missing on straight to DVD and some indy releases recently. It really depends on how much they expect to sell vs cost of licensing the protection for it. And really, how much could they really expect Cruel Intentions 3 to make?

I *know* kill bill 2 is encrypted... And so that's definitely not legal. :nono:

I keep my DVD's at home and my copies at school, then if someone steals it it's not a huge deal to me. :hsd:

    And that's not legal :mamoru:

It doesn't matter WHY you do it, just simply that it's not legal.

:mamoru: so why do all these places make DVDr's and DVD burners and DVD burning programs?

I'll quit because you told me to.

DVD-R discs and dvd burners and burning software is for making data dvds and uncopywrited movies.

It is illigal to crack dvd video encryption, which is why *NO* software is legally available to do it. DVD Shrink and DVD-X-Copy are both deemed illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court.

It's a glitch with DVD Shrink. I know how to get past all the little tricks that these movie companies put on the disc to mess up your rip.

With the redundancy problem. You have to analyse with DVD shrink, then click on "unreference material" and switch to "still images"

Rip the DVD and click the "Enable video preview" button on and off for about a minute or two until it gets past the "Jumping kid" part.

Sounds like an actual error on the disc. I've ran into a couple of those with PS2 games.

This is true when DVD Shrink retuns a dialog box that says that it ran into problems and needs to close or it when encoding the program suddenly quits without warning.

CRC errors are from bad media...

http://forums.afterdawn.com has forums on this stuff so you can look up your problems there.

It is also legal to copy a copyrighted movie for back-up purposes if it doesn't have any copy protection measures.

I ran into that on a couple DVDs, but since I started using DVDIdle's CSS & Region Free, the problem seems to have stopped.

I break the law every time I get a new DVD that my kids will be watching. $20 DVD and 3 year olds finger prints = me :wtc:

correct. I have a backup copy of 10 Things I Hate About You. And I simply did a Disc-to-Disc copy through Nero to get it. But if you have to crack encryption, then it's not legal.

DVDShrink is not legal, and is not required to legally make an archival copy.
