Ok, my last computer came with a set of speakers/sub woofer, and i wanted to use them on my new computer. I found out that the speakers ONLY work with a digital sound card, so i transfered the old card into the new computer.

Heres where the problem is, the headphones will work when im playing a file that is already stored on the computer, but when i watch a vid. online, they dont work.. the normal speakers work fine though.

anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

I use firefox, but they dont work on any internet browser i have tried, will only play files already saved on my computer.

edit* i have windows MCE 2005 and it is a creative soundblaster soundcard

What type of connection does your headphones have?

If it's usb, you're going to have issues like that.

I have a logitech pair of usb headphones.

If I have them plugged in, and I want to listen to a file through my speakers, I have to go into:

Start > control panel > sounds and audio devices > audio tab >
and then change the "Sound playback" from the drop down arrow.

(and of course vice versa on that ^^^^)

That or I can unplug the headphones, and restart the video/audio app.

    Note*

If that's your situation, you can drag and drop the "sounds and audio devices" from your control panel into your tool tray.

That will let you make the change a lot faster.

they are wireless headphones, but the base uses a regular headphone jack, i dont have to do anything like plug them in, they stay in all of the time.

Ok, well it still could be an issue of having to select the output in sounds and audio devices.

If it's a setting in the media player, it will be under options.

    Usually it's tools > options,
    or view > options.

Say, just as a curiosity. You mentioned that the speakers only work with a digital sound card.
What did you mean by that? All sound cards are digital.

Did you mean there is some sort of special connector on the speakers?

My point is, that if they have a normal 1/8th inch output jack, they will play on any soundcard.
Like I said, all soundcards are digital, so I don't understand why they wouldn't work on any soundcard.

I'm wondering if when you tried them on you computer's sound outputs, if you maybe just didn't have the audio driver installed properly.
That would have kept the speakers from getting sound.

the speakers are digital, and need a special sound card.

i had this same setup on my other computer and it worked fine.

my comp has an onboard "soundcard" that is soldered to the motherboard, and when i installed the new card, i disabled it under the device manager

I know you may be scratching your head wondering what the hell I'm talking about, but realize that there is literally no such thing as "digital speakers".

    And all soundcards are digital.

So, the only thing that can prevent speakers from working on any given soundcard, is a compatible connector.

If the connector is the same, then it will work.

Note* Some speakers may have digital outputs from the amplifiers, in which case your soundcard may need a digital input, but that goes back to the connector issue I was talking about.

i have tried these speakers on every soundcard i have, including plugging them into my TV, and cd player, ad they do not work. they will only work with this soundcard.

Man, I'm sorry but you've got me stumped on the digital part.

If that's the normal 1/8th inch connector, I don't understand why it wouldn't work on any normal source.

Getting back to the problem of the files not playing online, but playing once you download them.

It's possible that it's a media player issue, or an internet setting.

Here's one internet setting that could cause that.

Go to start > control panel > internet options > advanced tab > now make sure that you have play videos in web pages checked. Apply, ok, and exit.

thanks, play vids and play sounds are both checked... but like i said, this is only for the headphones, it works with the speakers.

and I dont really understand the digital part either, but from what i understad, the woofer is digital or something, and you need a special sound card for it.

Man all I can say is that I hope one of the other guys can answer this one, because it's got me beat.

I don't have MCE running, so I can't even guess if there's some setting unique to MCE in there.

Was the other pc also running MCE?

no, but to be honest, I dont think it has anything to do with it... i mean it could, but i doubt it.

sorry if i sounded like an ass earlier, but i dont really know how to explain the speakers and how they work, I had a hell of a time getting them to work in the first place (i had no idea i had to use a special soundcard)

Well if you know the model number of the soundcard, post it here.
Maybe that will ring a bell with somebody.

Also, what media player do you use?

Maybe there's a setting in there somewhere.

Oh, and one more question... I'm assuming that this happens the same way no matter which website you try to watch videos at?
