Both are very unique, only reason i would take the job as you well know, i dont really like weddings.

One is for the owner of MALUS clothing in Los Angeles. It will have a very grunge feel. Not really traditional. Its a friend of a friend. They want gritty processing, and non traditional everything. Its in this cool venue, with lots of candles and renaissance feel. Wedding will be in October, its 4-5 hours long. They are paying for my hotel and travel expenses with another photog buddy. No prints just disk. Since they are actually his best friends, we wont be charging much. $500 for each of us. I was gonna go to the wedding anyway might as well have fun with it.

Second one is really unique. The ceremony and reception will be at TAO Nightclub. They want a club kind of feel, somewhat traditional ceremony, but going to be very dark they say. They know i will be using flash. 5-11pm. No real formals are necessary. They just want alot of fun shots in the club dancing and having a grand time. Wedding party is 15 people. 5 on groom side and 5 on brides side and the rest are ring bearers and flower girls. Again no real prints, but may want one or two albums (coffee table book, and then keepsake book) Will be charging $2200 for just the disk. Price of albums will be determined based on type and what they want. This one will occur in February. turn around for disk will be 4 weeks, albums TBA

What do you think of the rates?

$500 isn't enough for the first gig once you factor in your travel time.

well they are friends. so it was just something to charge. i didnt want to shoot for free, but didnt want to charge them a whole lot. With food and airfare and hotel, they will already be in the 400-500 range for me. so i thought 500 is fair enough of a price.

500 plus expenses, and all he's gotta do is give em a disk. I think that's a pretty decent price for what he's been asked to do:dunno:

actually not really, if they werent my friends it would easily be in the 1200-1500 range. But they are best friends with one of my best friends and we have all hung out together. So its totally cool. I just hate doing shoots for free.

ive learned unless they are your closest friends, when you do something for free for someone, they tend to expect free all the time.

Are they renting out all of TAO to do the ceremony and reception, or are they going to be there when normal club goers are there as well?

I don't even want to know how much it would cost to rent out the whole place for a night.

based on the quality of your club work, I'd say that is one hell of a steal

I have a feeling those "unique" weddings of yours are going to be anything but unique and more like hardcore traditional weddings.

Make sure to have fun, eat as much food as you can, and flirt with brides mates :naughty:
