I'm totally stoked. I've fired a few guns before, but never actually gone to a range. I'm going to be shooting an AK-47, K98, Yugo Mauser, and an SKS. I think there's going to be a .22 too.

We split 2000 7.62x39 rounds 3 ways. My buddy's getting 1000, another guy is getting 700, and I paid for 300. I have a feeling my shoulder is going to be killing me in the next few days. I honestly can't wait.

I'm looking forward mostly to shooting the K98 and the AK. If I enjoy it enough, I may be making a firearm purchase in the next couple of months. Going to have to run it past the parental unit as I still live at home while I'm in college.

Start with the 8mm Mauser rifles. You'll thank me later.

    Have fun :big grin:

Take the pain like a champ :big grin: Otherwise, a rolled up sock can make for some decent protection :o

7.62x39 is a battle rifle cartridge that has to be somewhat controllable under full-auto fire. Neither the AK or SKS is going to produce overly memorable recoil unless you go through those 300 rounds as fast as you can unload them.

I expect the story witk the Mauser and K98 will be different as those are not only older cartridges designed for long, flat trajectories but they lack a heavy semi-automatic bolt assembly to soak up and delay some of the recoil.

I think the lack of a protective butt on the stock plays a big role also :o

I don't understand what people have against protective rifle butts. I don't see myself as any more or any less manly for just having a protective rubber butt to lessen the recoil a tad bit.

Hey guys, I just got back from the range not too long ago. We didn't bring all the ammo today because we're going to be going again in a few weeks and didn't want to blow it all. My shoulder is pretty damn sore. I've already got bruises showing up and it's tender to the touch. The Mausers have way more kick than the ak, but they're also more comfortable to shoot. I don't know how many rounds I went through, but they went fast. We used all the boxes of 9mm and only came back with 3 boxes of 7.62.

All in all I had a ton of fun. Next time I'm going to focus a little more on aiming instead of unloading. I may start looking into making a purchase that'll make me apart of the WMD crew. The problem will be to convince my dad to let me have one. He's totally anti-firearm.

SKS's have barley any recoil...I'd be more worried about the K98

Probably some sort of Bolt Action rifle. I really liked shooting the K98. I honestly don't know what I want to look into though. I'll be going to the range again a few more times before I decide if I want to buy something for sure.

& I'd take him, but in all honesty, he's not really the gun type in the first place. He's not really one to be swayed on his opinion.

lol. There are things on OT that no parent should ever have to experience.

In other news, my shoulder is super tender, and its got a pretty nasty bruise on it lol. I can't wait to go again.

hold the rifle in to the shoulder tighter to fix the bruising. Also, go to the range more :bigthumb:

Personally, after about the 3rd range trip with my mosin, I stopped bruising at all. It can still get a little tender, but that just tells you that you were having fun :big grin:

Thankfully my father is very much pro-gun. I went out shooting at 20ga when I was 12!
