download "adaware" and "spybot search & destroy" from www.download.com

update each when prompted, and remove everything they find.

dude, listen to what we're telling you..

    adaware
    spybot search & destroy

if those don't help, then your box is borked beyond repair and you need to format and re-install.

you should run one of the antiviruses listed in that thread also it might find some things spybot and adaware dont
I did all that to a comp recently, heres how it went
Downloaded spybot, ran it, it didnt finish. Had to reboot.
Ran it again, it found ~475 instances of programs classified as spyware
The fixing froze, had to reboot.
Ran it again, this time it found 388, apparently the fixing got some of them before it got stuck. This time it BARELY made it through, I wasn't sure if it was going to when the bar stopped for 3-5 minutes at a time but it stuck it out. It told me 180 something of them couldnt be fixed because they were using resources and i needed to reboot again. I complied. This time it fixed all of them. Then I downloaded AVG, ran its scan, it caught 80 something "viruses". It fixed them, and then I rebooted. First thing I noticed, a little window popped up on the bottom that said Web Search and had a space to type in it. :rl:
    jesus those things are persistent.
turns out all it needed was a little add-remove programs though. Now it is running a little bit better, i still need to mess with it some though.

never forget the sure-fire way to remove spyware : reformat.

If it's really bad, or you want it all gone, that's the way to do it. Remember, even if you remove it successfully, the machine will never run like before it had it.

Come to think of it, I think that might have been what I ended up using. He's probably managed to get it agian by now but I never use his computer so I really don't care.

:werd: I'd suggest formatting, re-installing, updating right away, then installing Firefox and never using IE.

Opinion. I prefer FF because it's free.

Get HijackThis and spot the results log here there might be something in there that's getting missed by the others
