don't have a date yet. I'm somewhat interested in getting one of those contracted security jobs somewhere in the middle east. The problem is that I don't know the names of a lot of these companies, the ones I've heard of (Dyncorp, Blackwater) want former operators. I do have security experience (member of security team on 2 ships, qual'd on just about every small arm we use), I've just never been deployed to Iraq. I'd be more than happy to get a job in Qatar, U.A.E., Kuwait, etc.

Can you guys help me out? Let me know what you think of these companies, honestly. I don't really have a lot of job opportunites due to my rate/mos. I don't like air traffic control, plus i suck at it. And there's really no civilian version of Operations Specialist, except maybe janitor (heh).

Yeah, so any input would help.

those companies get a lot of bad rep among army, especially us infantry guys. but in the end they are doing the same thing we do but getting paid a ton more to do it and probably don't have to deal with as much BS as the Army does. anyways places like blackwater are cool in the fact that its pretty much free reign, like you can use whatever weapon you want, wear whatever gear you want (no friggin 60 lb IBA). on the downside, not many know it since the companies aren't well known, but they have a much higher death rate since they are doing smaller teams and doing their own thing. there are also a few european contract companies (like in the UK) that do the same thing, I hear they are better, but you'd have to look into that for yourself.

I work for a security contract company in Kuwait. CSA Ltd.

there are several other companies around that do this stuff. Varying on what you want, more money and higher risk.

    ITT
    Blackwater
    Triple Canopy
    Crescent
    Dyncorp

are some I know off the top of my head. Typical salary for someone in Kuwait/Qatar/Kosovo is between 60-75K a year. But that is because it is a "safe" zone.

In Iraq some guys are making around 90k, but then it starts to go up based on which company, where, and what exactly you are doing. convoy security can get you paid somewhere around 120-160k. While static security(guarding pipelines for instance) can get you easily 6 digits. PSD positions are available in most of these companies. There are also LnO(Law and Order) branches, Traffic branches, K-9 units, Weapon Squads, etc...

I know the recruiter for my company, but I will not lie, you are better off taking Kosovo if you can. At least they have 4 seasons.

BTW the soldiers do hate us sometimes, until they need our help with something on base, but that is typical of everyone anywhere. But they hate us for probably making more than them and for giving them a hard time(but we do this to everyone, geez people it is security, it is supposed to be difficult to get onto/off of base unless you have the proper media). But people look at things differently. Honestly though, we get lots of military personel who thank us because they know they would have to be doing the job if there were no contract companies.

Also, hours vary depending on the company. For instance with us it is 12.5 hours a day and 5-6 days a week. Making around 70k a year. While in Kosovo(cannot remember company with the contract right now) it is 8.5 a day working 6 days a week and making around 60-65k.

You might be able to come up with a calculation that shows that you make more than he does, but he takes home more than you do.

There are civilian jobs in Iraq that pay those numbers, but you would probably not want them. :noes:
