Yeah, I'm hoping they'll cave on my last deal request for an upgrade to the 1900 XT and 12 GB of memory (since I negotiated a group deal), but I don't think I'm going to push my luck any further.

I've got a bunch of speed tweaks that worked really well on the PowerPC Macs, so I'm hoping I can tune the MP so that everything runs much faster. :eek3: :p

Mostly VMWare sessions and general purpose stuff (e-mail, Internet, Office, plus R&D for our college via VMWare Fusion), possibly BootCamping into XP.

I know I'll have enough memory to run XP from a RAM disk. :naughtyd:

All computers we get for work are expected to last a minimum of five years without hardware upgrades, and if anyone's ever worked for government during hard times, your budget for ANYTHING is a use it or lose it allocation. You'd be surprised how much 6-8 VMWare sessions running Exchange, SQL Server 2005, SharePoint, ISA, etc. can kick the crap out of even nicely specced machines when they're all running simultaneously, on top of the host OS and whatever apps you're running on the host.

I stretched my dollar and got the ability to future-proof my working environment, I don't see the problem with it. Overkill if you can afford it is just smarter planning IMO.

    I are jealous.

I'm trying to stick it out for blueray integration, but photo editing on my powerbook is just getting painful.

I just got it in today, here's some speedruns for boot times:

    Rebooting into OS X:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NCKrxP_2Ss

Rebooting into XP Pro using VMWare Fusion:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKbg1-Iml6w

I'll post more of installations and other speed runs if you're interested. I made some...erm...modifications to the system to speed things up a bit. :O

I'll be doing some more tweaking over the next few days to improve my times.
