and I know that people on this forum are gonna jump on me for even considering it but I'm looking into my first car and this is one of the definite choices.

I have 6000 to spend. I am going to a Dealer to Dealer auction this week and I will be trying to buy a car. Hopefully one that looks decent and has good gas mileage.

Eh, don't do it. My buddy had one and around 60,000 miles it started falling apart. It was in the shop more times, on warranty at least, than I can remember. There are a bunch more reliable cars, especially used ones, that can be had with $6k.

Don't go so good in the snow either.

At least not compared to other small FWD cars.

If you are moving from a '78 Caddy you'll probably find it okay.

Never saw snow on the Focus down here in Florida, but we definitely saw the valve cover leak, countless sensors die, and about a dozen recalled parts. What a POS that car was. He sold it and bout an '89 Lincoln Towncar. Sadly, the Towncar is way more reliable with double the mileage.

just lease a new one. a focus is a good car but gets a lot of hate from OT because its a econbox car. i personally like it.

But, you have a bunch of people in here stating the problems they've had with the car. It's not hate, it's actually a downright piece of shit car.

Yeah, I like how JDP&A gave them credit for the Mazda MX-5, even though it's built by a company that Ford DOESN'T own a controlling share of.

By the way, if you judge brand quality by "Initial Quality", you're an idiot. A car made out of papier mache can be the best car in initial quality, until the first rainstorm. What matters is how much the car depreciates over five years or so.

I was looking at foreign cars instead today. Tommorow i plan to call a bunch of listings in the classifieds. Anyone have any suggestions on decent 2 door sedans with good gas milage? cars similar to the Elantra in size?

Also, what are some good questions to ask when findind out about a used car

Do some research and ask some real life friends who know about cars to take a cruise with you. If you have a dad or mom around, ask one of them or both to come with you. That's a great bonding experience to have your
parent(s) along with you for your first car purchase. It's like a right of passage in modern society.

Ask about mileage, previous owner history, accidents (even though people will always lie about that answer so expect 0), maintenance and receipts, any problems with the car (some people will be honest, but not most), etc...

If you're really concerned, call a mechanic before you go and see if the current owner minds you taking it for a test drive over to said mechanic. Most people won't care because most people are selling decent cars. If all that checks out, you like the look and ride, might as well buy it.

Do NOT get the older ones. They had issues with the lock mechanism falling into the ignition mechanism, requiring the car to be towed.

Even after fixing by dealership, it happened again. POS.

Wrong forum...Focus is far from "muscle", closer to "rice".
