I'm getting some MB Quart Premium PCE 216 for my car, along with a Kenwood EZ-500 CD/MP3/WMA Receiver, and a Audiobahn ATB10AT powered subwoofer. What's OT's opinion on component speaker systems and powered subwoofers? And does anyone have any of this equipment, if so how do you like it??[IMG]

I'm being charged $180 for installation including any harnesses or other things they may need, am I being ripped or is that reasonable and ok.

those are great speakers,i'd recommend getting a 2 or 4 chan amp to run those, I think the RMS is around 50-75 or so. I installed two pairs or the PCEs and a JL 300/4 in my bosses evo and it sounded great.

yes the speakers NEED an amp.

That headunit is lame for the price, and that sub is HORRIBLE.

well, the 15-20 watt RMS that the deck is pushing won't be nearly as much as a 50w x 4 amp or something aroud that... So yeah, they will sound a whole lot better with 50-70 watt RMS.

I would agree on the sub. No way I would consider a powered sub... especially for $250. You could probably pull off a GREAT sub and enclosure and a start on a decent amp for that kind of money.

Thanks, i'm not so concerned about the sub, i'm not looking for serious bass, it's more of an afterthought with me. It looks like i'll be getting a 4 channel 200 or 300 watt amp for my speakers, thanks guys

Those Quarts need an external amp for sure. I have a similar set of MBQ's, and I tried powering them off a little 20x2 Rockford amp just as a temporary setup. They sounded pretty bad compared to how they sound on the usual 100x2 amp I run. Keeping in mind that the RF I tried is still going to be a huge improvement over powering them off the headunit.

As far as the headunit it's OK but you could probably do better. That sub isn't the best choice. Don't buy from Crutchfield, their prices often aren't much better than retail... there are other shops online that are much cheaper.

Ignition1004, do you work at a shop?

cool speakers, 180 bucks is way too much for installation, for that money you could do it yourself with dynamating and new wiring.
