Watching the Olympics, I was absolutely amazed at the number of Nikon bodies at the pool. I thought, "wow..Nikon really has taken over". However, when watching every other sport (Track, Volleyball, Gymnastics) I saw more Canons than Nikons. It wasnt as one-sided as years previous, but it also wasnt as one-sided as it was in the pool.

So, why do you think there was such a great showing in the pool but not the same level everywhere else?

actualy i was wondering why there was like 50 still cameras for every video camera. you would think there would be some wanting to maybe get some more unique video shots, but no, they all used the same coverage

Haha another thing I was wondering was what happens to all the pictures those guys take. I mean, lets say Newsweek (or some other place) sends 5 guys. Those 5 guys each take maybe 800 pictures a day (probably much more)? Newsweek is then getting 4,000 pictures everyday but only do stuff with maybe 20 of them? What happens to all the rest?

Nikon has the newest and fastest full frame bodies out right now.. 9-11fps FF vs Canon's 5fps

Even the D300 is faster than most current Canons. I'm sure the fps thing had a hig priority, but maybe the higher ISO capability indoors played a part in that too. The D3 does go up to 6400 sith very little noise :dunno:

Olympics = Worldwide press. A lot more people overseas use Nikon than in the US. When I was in Europe for a month I think only saw 3-4 people with canon gear as opposed to the hundreds I saw with Nikon and other various brands.

you can put a 1200mm L lens on it, theres adaptors for just any any system. Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride was 1d2's with nikon 300 f/2 that are disco'd.

Transformers used a 1200mm L in the dessert for some of the helicopter scenes.

theres also the fact that Nikon is looking for press of this nature and will either provide better pricing or even free to some places.

I can't see any company paying to switch over.

What differences? Price? The Nikon Super-Telephoto lenses are much more expensive than the Canon equivalent and you need them even more when you go to full frame with the D3.

Aren't some of the Nikon bodies and lenses sealed from water? I saw a video on youtube of some guy pouring all kinds of stuff all over his Nikon.

These are my guesses. I think there is a greater Nikon presence in Asian countries than Canon. I also think Nikon has some sponsorship money in the Olympics too.

Most of the people shooting were from various media outlets that had nothing to do with the olympics directly.. How would olympic sponsorships impact the brand of gear that they brought to china?

Speaking of the video camera thing, did you guys see the behind the scenes clips from the Planet Earth series? I bet their helicopter-mounted video camera could have raped the hell out of whatever the media was using at the Olympics.
