I dont want to fuck this up because Ive been reading the FAQs and readmes on sourceforge and this program sounds nasty, wiping any drive it can detect and all :noes:

So my question is, I should unhook all drives I dont want wiped, including usb, right? And should I worry about jumper settings on the drive I do want cleaned?

Im going to use the boot from a floppy method, so I should just run the .exe in windows, which will create the dban floppy, then shut down, unhook everything that I want to keep, then just startup again with the floppy

I just want to make sure Im not missing any steps in there somewhere

My one and only experience with dban scares me.
I had a couple of month old 73gb 10k scsi Fujitsu drive, and I was going to reinstall windows on it so I decided it would be a good time to try out dban, and wipe the drive.
Well I did, and the drive never worked again. The support people at dban swear that it can't happen, but it did.
Coincidence? I really don't know, but I won't use it again.

I use DBAN all the time at work to wipe drives that we are going to get rid of or put in a new machine. Never had any problems, but then again we unhook all other drives before we use it. Grab a copy of Ultimate Boot CD if you are going to use it, might as well get the whole pack of utils if you are going to use a CD.
