Fucking thing sucks rancid donkey cock, and here's why: the power management has somehow gotten itself fucked in that when it's plugged in it shows it's on battery and when it's on battery, it thinks it's plugged in.

Result: No battery life remaining counter and no low power notice. It just shuts the fuck off out of nowhere when the battery goes flat.

    FUCK! :madfawk:

I've tried every weird Apple boot key combo to reset PRAM and the power controller and shit. No dice.

    halp.

try this: Shut down, unplug and take your battery out. Hold your power button down for about 7 seconds. Put battery back in and boot.

    See if that helps.

Did that (even though according to Apple that doesn't work with unibody MacBooks) and still no dice. :wtc:

    Thanks though.

Another option is to delete com.apple.PowerManagement.plist. It's in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. Make sure you back up the file by copying it to the desktop, then reboot. The file should regenerate upon reboot and may fix your problem. If not, it may make your battery icon disappear completely. If this happens, just drag your backed up copy back in the folder.

If the computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shutdown from the Apple () menu.
Connect the power adapter to a working power source.
On the built-in keyboard, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once.
Wait 5 seconds and press the power button to start the computer.

if all of this doesn't work, back up your stuff and reinstall leopard from a clean install.

run your hardware diagnostics from the install CD as well. (insert disk, turn on computer holding "C" i think...either that or it's "D")

if you call applecare, the first thing on their troubleshooting is always reinstalling the OS, so you might as well just do it on your own time, rather than getting told by customer service to do it and call back.

I'm sorry but has anyone else noticed and chuckled at the way this thread has evolved with ever increasing procedures for a fix. I still have no idea which ones are real things to try and which ones are funny fucks making shit up. They seem so farfetched how could they possibly work.

Delete 40 gigs of your hard drive to get 129.4 GB free space.
Scratch 'power' into the palm rests left side backwards, right side forward.
Put your earth ring in the middle between the G key and the H key.
The rest of us will do the same.
When our powers combine captain macbook will fix your power since its an environment issue to you and us.

    umm... they're all possible solutions...
sometimes a simple permission repair fixes stuff
sometimes getting rid of a plist file or a preference files fixes it because they got corrupt
sometimes resetting the pram fixes stuff
sometimes resetting the power controller fixes stuff

you start on the simple stuff and work your way up... :ugh:

Looks like the only idiot in this thread is you since everything else in this thread is a documented Apple support procedure. :ugh:

Happens to me too. That really pisses me off. If you just close the lid it's not actually in a real power saving mode.

I figured this out because I use DeviceScape to attach to wifi hotspots on the road and it makes a door knock sound when it connects. Well, I can have the MackBook closed and in my bag and when I pull into the Starbucks parking lot I hear that goddamn muffled knocking sound from the back seat.

    What the fuck? :rofl::squint:

    that's not normal either...
might want to format your system or take it into apple and have them look at it...

go into finder, in the search bar put in "com.apple.PowerManagement.plist". At first nothing will be revealed. Click the + right under the search bar and switch "kind" to "system files" and "don't include" to "include".

If the file is one your system that should reveal it. (It will likely also pull up the web history of this thread since we've been saying com.apple.PowerManagement.plist.)

Good luck. If things don't work, maybe an archive and install or a fresh install.
