i just turned 21 this year. always considered buying a gun but never really sat down to take the time to learn this hobby. i browsed through some of the sites in the useful links thread. i learned a few things but i learn much more through interaction. i would like a small handgun that would be nice for my size, 6'1'' 250lbs. nothing too expensive just an overall good buy for my first purchase. any suggestions on what i should get?

The best thing to do is go down to a gun store and handle some different guns. If you have big fingers small guns are going to suck.

In all seriousness, you should get a DAO CZ 75. This is going to make things alot less complicated for you since you are a noob and also teach you good trigger control and shooting technique. Don't spend more than 330.00 or so.

Springfield XD. Pick one up in 9mm. Ammo will be cheap. Great gun. Tons of fun. You can get them for under $400 too.
