    Who do you recommend?

First couple months I won't need too much BW, but once I get my sites back up and running they'll pick up pretty quick with BW sucking. Will probably need 5tb transfer, if not more shortly after.

HostGator can't handle my shit. Maybe they could NOW, since they've been down for a few months, but that won't last long.

I've been with Surpass Hosting for 4 or 5 years now:
    http://www.surpasshosting.com/hosting-shared-solutions.php

They say unmetered (which I always find sketchy) for the upper-tier shared hosting.

They also offer dedicated and co-location hosting. I'm partial to them because their response time is great, no rules about nudity, and I have the cell # for one of their systems guys on location.

    They're in Orlando, FL.

P.S. if you sign with them, there are no discounts. So no use searching for a code.

looks to be cheap, but how can they guarantee 100% uptime...?

$7 a month unmetered 9999 GB drive space? That can't be right.

    That's 10TB.

No one can guarantee 100% uptime, and you sure as hell can't expect anythig close to it without paying for it.

They used to put up 98.7/99.8% stats and limited the bandwidth to 250gb for the most basic plan... I think they're trying to appeal to people that don't understand "unlimited" / "100% uptime" don't exist.

That aside, I still have had a pleasant couple years.

Word. I mean, even 99% is pretty damn good for most sites, and lots of people don't understand that 99.99 can't be rounded to 100 in this case.

It's just to cover their ass. They can have 100% uptime for a year, and then a thunderstorm wipes out their pipeline. Not their fault, but it would kill their 100%.

if I were making $200 a month from that site in specific, it would be a no brainer. But I don't wanna waste that money when I can't guarantee success. :hs:

Just as an FYI, 200GB of data transfer works out to about a mbit 95th for most usage patterns. What this means is that even on the absolute cheapest ass Cogent transit at $2/mbit, when you do 1TB of transfer you cost the hosting company $10. :o

For comparison we pay $30/mbit for Level 3 transit in London. :o

If I claimed to offer unlimited bandwidth, I would provide it.

That's why I've been more than happy with imountain.com, I get what I pay for - and then some. I'm a legacy client, so I get way more than they show on their hosting plans.

Never once had a problem with them.
