Never used this in my life, but I've got an interview for a job which requires knowledge of it.

How difficult is it to learn? Need to learn Photoshop too, but I don't think that will be an issue.

Probably find more help in OTAP...

Illustrator is quasi easy to learn if you know photoshop. If you don't know photoshop already, spend some time on youtube looking up tutorials. It's a deep program, that's for sure.

I've basically been stupid and used a ridiculously old program for designing for the last 8 years. I can't imagine it will be that difficult to transfer over to photoshop, and will probably make my life easier.

I disagree. I'm pretty damn good with photoshop and I find illustrator hard to use. For whatever reason they changed up the tools and layout options and how things are controlled which can really throw a photoshop savvy guy off...I think a few ppl would agree with this

I find Illustrator less forgiving than Photoshop.

I work with AI more than PS. its all about what you get used to.

either way, get to work and quick

Really? Hmm... different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I did find the jump from PS7 to teh CS3 took a little getting used to, but it didn't take me any more than about a week to get adjusted.

Note that I said "quasi easy" too... maybe that sounded to simple. Don't expect it to be a straight jump definitely. If I were you I'd jump on google and youtube and learn the basics, stat.

:werd: Brown Guy is right. The tools, shortcuts, layout, and a lot of other stuff is different in AI. I hope you don't need to be  in like a week . I really hope it's not Fireworks that you're converting from :o

I've used Photoshop a bit over the past week or so and I can replicate most of the stuff - the handling of layers is just a bit different, and I work a lot slower. I think a few weeks of solid use would have me pretty competent.
