Is it legal for an 18 year old to purchase a handgun in a face to face sale or recieve it as a gift as long as he has a valid foid card?

    http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilc...eqEnd=53000000&ActName=Criminal+Code+of+1961.

in there it states "(a) Sells or gives any firearm of a size which may

be concealed upon the person to any person under 18 years of age."

just wanted to see if anyone else knows different laws that would prohibit that

I highly doubt with all the gun stuff IL has. No handguns in chi. No carry at all.

Fuck that state sucks my dick.

They are working on a state level assault weapons ban, considering a statewide firearms ban similar to what's in Chicago now and best of all, a ban on any toy guns. It would cover even squirt guns. Rock on Illinois!

 They've seen how well the ban worked in Chi so they plan on letting the criminals take over the rest of the state.

I know that as long as you have a valid foid, you are allowed to have a firearm gifted to you. Not sure about the private sale part.

I doubt it also. In Illinois you must be 21 and have a valid FOID card to purchase a handgun, with a 3 day waiting period. This includes private transfers (even the waiting period). So technically I don't' think there is a way to legally transfer ownership, and unless he is only going to handle the pistol while under the direct supervision of his parents (not kidding here, under 21 = needs parental consent/supervision) there is really no legal way to posses it unless maybe he moves into the state with it already owned by himself first. And that does not take into account any specific law prohibiting someone under 21 from possession.

LOL. Private transfers have to go through an FFL and have a waiting period? If so, then no. You cannot own a pistol.

No, no FFL. but the seller is expected to verify they have a FOID card and hold the pistol for 3 days.

Hell if I know. The seller is supposed to keep the records for x years (don't recall how long) so I guess if there is no FOID number on the record they could go after you. As for the 3 day waiting period, I have no idea. I guess if Joe Bob blows away his wife the day you sell him the gun you're screwed.
