i'll admit it, the screen on a macbook really isn't all that great

i have 13" 2ghz c2d white macbook. at first i was amazed at how clear everything came through on the screen. i usually only keep it at 1/2 brightness

the problem is when you use it in a dim or dark room, you see all the shortcomings of the screen.

black levels are horrible, the backlight really leaks through. also, the viewing angle (up and down) is very limited. side to side viewing angle is pretty decent. the backlight is uneven, just watch something that is in widescreen and has black bars, compare the top to the bottom.

/rant otherwise i love my macbook

I love the clarity on my MBP screen, but my qualms with most LCDs in general, are that it's a pain to edit photos on these things, because color correction and contrast are pretty big issues. I have to often refer to the histogram on how well a picture is exposed, because it looks fine on this computer, but looks like crap on my CRT. All work done on my CRT looks perfectly fine on the MBP LCD.

I love the screen on my MB, but I'm not a professional...as long as it's crystal clear and the color is good i'm happy...don't watch much video on it so I don't really notice the black levels...

then don't get the glossy screen...it's an option when buying your MB/MBP. LCD's aren't as good with blacks as plasmas are but my 2 ACD's and the screen on my MBP do what I need them to do just fine. :dunno:

Glossy is the only way MB's come....MBP's, however, come with the option for glossy or matte

I have a MBP with Matte and I am in love with it. My previous notebook had a glossy which I was not a big fan of

The difference between the screens on my old RevA MacBook (13" 1.83GHz CoreDuo) and my current 15" MBP (2.2GHz C2D, glossy screen) is astounding.

With the newer backlight, the screen on my MBP looks bright and crisp and just gorgeous. It blows both my old MacBook and my Dell 2005 FPW away.
