MMA if you're not doing plyo box jumps, you're doing it wrong

    standing jump with both feet.

    I do a lot of variations, but this is a main one I'll do ... standing broad jump over the first box (which is about knee high) and immediately from that jumping up onto the taller box (about waist high). repeat for five reps then colapse.

    after a couple rounds of that im dying and it's the best thing ever to work explosion.

    you can do fun things like jump on then back down to a pushup and then back jumping again, lateral jumps, etc

    it's definitely a good tool and i do similar stuff, but it's not the end all be all of developing explosive strength

    I had boxes at my old gym but I found it was kind of hard on the knees

    you can do vertical jumps up onto a high box, that way there's not as much weight coming down and then step off the box

    i like mixing it up between plyometric stuff and power lifts. dumbbell snatches, olympic lifts, cleans...all good stuff. wheres MLA at. thats basically all they seem to do at crossfit haha. olympic lifts

    i read it, but i couldnt respond yet, was at work.

    you should go out tonight and have fun, its halloween man. itll get your mind off of things, even if its just for the night

    im getting drunk right now, waiting to go to the bars in a little bit.

    oh yea, this is gonna be my last weekend of drinking i think too. im trying to fight in february at a local show here in mma.

    I work some of the crossfit stuff into my routine, but I like to stick to the heavy presses and squats, along with some isolated muscle stuff

    I actually did these pictured after my squats tonight

    no, not really .. there's a technique for absorbing the jump/landing so you're not slamming your legs and joints

    hm..if you're knees hurt maybe you should just step down instead of jumping down. or maybe you're not giving enough during the impact when you come back down. for a normal healthy young guy it shouldn't stress your joints at all. distance running actually puts more stress on your knees
