When you can settle for something less like a 40/50D :dunno:

I guess that's like asking if it's overkill to buy a Ferrari 430 if you're not a professional race driver :o

Pretty much. If you want it and you have the money, buy it.

    5d ain't no ferrari 430... jesus christ.

    5d is like a s2000.

It's not overkill for anyone. It's a good tool that you can use in photography.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

It would depend if you want a FF camera or not. The 40D is harder to live with in some places due to the 1.6 crop.

    Didn't say it was.

Depends on how you define photography. It doesn't have the same meaning for everyone.

    .

no one really cares what you do with your $...spend it how you want.

but if money's so tight that youre bleeding from spending on an midline dslr....photography's not a good hobby for you.

same argument I used to hear from kiddies about how such and such rider didn't "deserve" an R1 just b/c said rider didnt ride balls out all the time, everywhere.

stupid kids, these are just disposable mass produced consumer goods.

you got money...get what you want. deserve's got nothin to do with it.

Well that's pretty much exactly the type of comment I'd expect in a thread like this. :ugh:

When are you noobs going to realize that gear means exactly fuck all? It doesn't matter if you want to shoot war photography with disposable 35mm cameras from Walgreens or flower/cat macros with a Hasselblad H3D. If you want to do it and you have the money for it, and you make it work, who fucking cares what you're shooting with?

Regardless of how you "define photography" (whatever the fuck that elitist art fag bullshit is supposed to mean) there's no wrong gear to use. There's bad technique and the technically incorrect execution, but there's no wrong way (meaning no wrong gear used) to get there. You want to shoot baby pictures with a handheld 8x10 view camera? Hey, if you can get good pictures that way then more power to you. Rock out with that shit.

People with gear hangups should just hangup their gear, because you just don't get it and that's sad.

    at thread

5d may require slightly more $ investment in lenses to get better pictures than say a 40d.

I know someone that takes snapshots with a 1D.

I'm anything but a pro by any stretch of the imagination and I find the 40D to be just fine for me. It does everything I want and more.

I would love a 5D/5D2 for FF but also for better ISO performance, and I could afford either, but then I'd have to get a 16-35 to replace my 10-22 (which is even MORE money on top of the body), and with a 5D/5D2 my non-photog friends would expect better shots from me :o

I'm hoping the 60D is gonna be the tits, and I'll just grab one of those for the better ISO and video
