Do you put it in sleep mode or shut it down if you plan on leaving it off for longer than 2 hours?

Always sleep it. Don't ever really turn it off, even when traveling through airports, etc.

I just close the lid, everytime. It maybe gets rebooted once a month, if that.

When you guys say close the lid, do you mean just close without selecting the 'sleep' option?

my laptop isn't my main machine so I may use it once every couple days. in that case, I always shut it down. when im traveling and it becomes my main machine, I just let it sleep

yes, when you close the lid it'll go to sleep automatically. it's not a pc where the computer freaks out.

    no point.
only time i'd say shut down is if you're not going to use the computer for a week. Anything less than that just close the lid and it'll go to sleep automatically... there will be a little battery drain, but nothing dramatic.
