    Any truth to this statement?

My dad's oncologist saw me for the first time in 2 weeks today and he said, "You've lost a lot of weight." He initially asked because he thought I wasn't eating because of stress, then I explained to him that I was purposely losing weight with diet + exercise.

He asked me how much weight I've lost and I told him I've lost 16lb in 6 weeks or so. He told me that losing weight too fast will make it harder to keep off. I'm not particularly worried because my diet was a lifestyle change, but I was wondering if what he said is true.

I don't think 16lb in 8 weeks is too drastic. Especially since you've just started out.

It's actually 16lb in 6 weeks (I can't count ). I started working out mid-October and didn't stick to any diet (I had some 4000+ calorie days and some 2000 calorie days)...went from 202lbs to 216lbs, then started my cut (1800-2000 calories) 4/17/06.

and what he said is primarily related to his first statement regarding stress (and also starvation).

the "problem" with losing weight too fast for most people is that they do it with ridiculous diets that they can't stick to. that's why they can't keep it off -- because they go back to pigging out

if you've made a lifestyle change, that's different. good for you. your doctor is simply assuming that you're one of millions of americans who don't know how to manage their weight. it sounds like you know what you're doing, so prove him wrong

How did you go about this? I'm about 6' @ ~213 right now. Trying to cut some weight. I've been trying to run every night, but I have also not only cut back on what I eat, but I've been eating way healthier.

    Count calories.

I eat 6 meals a day, ~300 calories per meal and I don't do any cardio. Hell, I only workout 3 days a week and I've lost (on average) 2.5lb/week.
