Last night around 3am my Dog went ballistic although nobody else in the house heard anything. After he continued a few minutes I grabebd my XD with the Ledware light and armed with nothing but underpants I went to see what was going on.

I looked out the window and saw nothing, and then I saw a bush flinch.

I opened the door, stepped out and strobed the area with the light, @ 3am it makes a HUGE difference between on and off! After strobing one bush I saw someone start running though the neighbors hard and down the street.

Honestly I probably would have shot the guy if I had chambered the gun but for some reason I didnt. Police came, took a report and left.

Moral of the story, if you have the means, I highly recommend you get yourself a gun light!

    I'd say it's a good thing you didn't have a round chambered.

2nd on that. You had no justification to shoot them. BTW why do you keep a gun, let alone go investigate without a round chambered?

We could also go into the tactical disadvantage you put out when you went outside. from a locked residense.

BUT, good thing all ended well and no one got hurt.

I fully understand I should have had a round chambered, but it was 3am and i was half asleep and in boxers outside in 40 degree weather.

In future i will have a round chambered but still wouldnt have been interested in shooting the guy but the bottom line is if he was armed, I would have let the dog go and chambered a round... but thankfully we dont have to play the "you should have" game

Did you find anything else out, was he just trying to peak through the window, did you see any signs of him trying to actually break in?

As far as inside my house I wouldn't hold the dogs back, someones in my house the dogs are going to get a piece of them first. Going outside my dogs will obey the command to stay if I dont want to let them out. Sounds like yours needs more training, if mine didnt listen to me it'de be a moot point whether i had weapons mounted or in hand since I wouldn't be able to hold two dogs back either way.

Why because he mentioned he probably would have shot a tentatively unarmed man who was only being creepy? Ya, fight that one in court.

not because going to see what is going on with a gun that isn't ready is the way to do it, but because finding a guy in the bushes and

"Honestly I probably would have shot the guy if I had chambered the gun but for some reason I didnt"

does not provide a valid reason for shooting him and probably would have ended up facing criminal charges.

well, I still think you should have had a round chambered, but to each their own. It's a good thing you didn't shoot anyone though - it doesn't sound like it would have worked out in your favor.

I'm sure that he would have given you plenty of time to rack the slide. Especially once he realized that you were point a gun at him. You're lucky he wasn't armed.

When I first posted that it was a good thing you didn't have a round chambered it was meant in jest. I know there's been situations when I've said something similar. In all reality, if you were going to shoot the person I don't see having to rack the slide as being that much of a prevention. There's been a few times when people have tried my door handle, or attmepted to break into a car in which I went out into the yard. Since there actually was someone out there just take this as a lesson that the second you need to chamber a round in the case you actually need the firearm may prove to be deadly.

Well apparently its been a bad gun week for me.

I went to work this morning, I dont carry chambered so I usually remove the magazine while inserting the gun into the holster.. Lets just say i got to work and realized I left the magazine on my bed :(

    JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!

Carry your gun, and carry the motherfucker ready to roll. Otherwise, you do dumb shit like this and will never be ready for when you fucking need it.

    Get your head right

:werd: my carry pieces always have a mag and a round in the chamber unless I'm cleaning them.
