Basically I was supposed to join Severn's gym quite a while back, some of you probably remember me making a thread about it. Due to working a second job I was never able to join and now I just flat out don't have the extra cash to join. Fiancee' definately won't let us bend out budget and I honestly don't want to either since we've been doing a great job of getting things paid off.

My question is, since I'm pretty new to all of MMA is, if you couldn't actually go to the gym to train and most of the time wouldn't have anybody to train with, how would you learn? I have a few KOTC DVDs that I bought way back in the day but that's about it. I don't have the extra cash to spend on training DVDs either :hs:

Are there any sites that are easy to understand that teach you submissions and how to work on your standup? I do have access to have heavy bag but I know that would only do so much. I am just looking for the cheapest way to start learning the basics until I can get into the gym.

I have nearly a 100 gig's worth of instructional videos and over a year of self training before I actually joined a gym. Atleast as far as striking goes, there are many basics that a coach will tell you about and make sure you do correctly that no instructional DVD I've seen covers. The ones that cover the most of the crucial stuff that I've seen are the Rodney King instructionals. He doesn't just tell you what to do, he also explains why and spends a lot of time on the basics.

IMO the things that would give you the most return for your time without a coach or partner are just overall conditioning and getting your shins and arms nice conditioned to hit a heavy bag.

If you don't have anyone to train with, its also gonna be pretty hard to understand and try out any of the jiu jitsu or wrestling stuff.

I can't train right now because I don't have reliable transportation to a gym. I do go w/ my buddy to the mat room and roll around with him though. Hopefully chechen will come down more too, then I can really learn :wiggle:

I think you're mostly wasting your time without at least an educated training partner.

I wouldn't expect to accomplish much and honestly you could hurt yourself doing much more than just hitting a heavy bag.

you wont really learn much until you put things into practice. you can see something a million times, but you'll never know how to do something until you drill it a million times..
