If the leg press is so worthless...

    Explain to me how after two years of NO squats whatsoever and nothing but leg presses, leg extensions, leg curls, and GHR's, my squat is far beyond what it was when I stopped.

    When I injured my groin I could barely do 275 for 5 sets of 5, now I'm murdering that weight and hit an easy 425lb squat today which brings my total up to 1325 (1500 here we come). Now that I'm squatting again it will only keep going up barring some unforeseen injury. But dong them close-stance olympic style, I felt absolutely no hint of the groin pain that plagued me before.

    Leg presses are by no means a replacement for squats, but they're not useless either. Work yo quads, nigga.

    i love leg press, it really helps finish off my leg workout.

    It certainly hits those too when I go really low, so I think the extra glute and hamstring work I've been doing has helped too. But when you're doing close stance, quads are the dominant group being used.

    who said leg presses were useless?

    i love them cause i can do so much weight (470lb x7) but i can only do 225lb sqaut x4:hs: . i do the same day i do my squats. also, would it be better to do leg presses before squat or after?

    A lot of people here used to hate on the leg press. I'd do them after squats to finish off the quads.

    I think they are worthless if you aren't a bodybuilder.....I can think of like 3 different exercises that I would rather use to work the "anterior chain".

    narrow front suats
    bulgarian split squats
    step ups
    swiss ball deep squats
    hack squats
    single leg leg press

    Nothing is really 'worthless', there are just better substitutions.

    He went and fucked his back up again Monday doing rows so I dunno if he'll be squatting any time soon.

    You were pulling during that time though yes? Your deadlift is like in the mid 5's isn't it. I think your squat increased more due to the fact that you were doing ghr's and deadlifting.

    I never deadlifted until after college. I was squatting about 600 at the time, and I pulled 500 easily my first time doing it. I don't attribute the deadlift to the fact that I did a lot of cable crossovers in high school.

    Yeah I took up deadlifting after I hurt my groin. You may be on to something here. My squat is pretty average right now but I plan on hitting 500 pretty soon and then from there we'll see what happens.

    Although leg presses have more to do with squatting than cable crossovers do with deadlifts :p

    what did you do to your groin? I tore my hip flexor at the abdominal tie in playing football in college. Hurt like fuck for 6 months and I had to take about that long off from physical activity period. When I got done with all the phyical therapy and started squatting again I was using like 315....it took about 4 more months to get back to where I was.

    Was doing wide stance squats with 275 of all things and at the bottom of the last one I was straining pretty hard and got this sharp pain around my balls/groin area.

    Thought it was a hernia but the doctors never found anything and nothing else hurt it but squats so I just abandoned them entirely until now.

    Interesting. Injuries in that general area are what I am hoping my squat briefs can help to prevent (well just general protection of the hip area) since I squat wide.

    You're thinking of crunking zercher squats. I love zerchers for killing my quads after a good leg day.
