I know, but don't want to admit it
You have a gift for recognizing the obvious.
What cars are selling well?
i still can't believe the G8 is selling badly, its such an awesome car, and they sell in bucket loads over here.
If so then I expect to get a killer deal on the GXP.
i still think its because its badged as a pontiac.
Might be. There's also a 30mpg craze going on over here -- a lot of people are getting small cars even though they hate them, just to they can stick it to those fucking Arabs (who only sell us a quarter of our oil).
nah, just coz of the grill
they could have used the holden grill and put a pontiac logo on there
I think the g8 price needs to come down by about 6-8k. I was looking online and you can get a base model benz for the same price as a load g8gt.
That's a huge part of it.
And the fact that it is only an auto at the moment.
seems the problem is that GM doesn't want to sell any of them. No TV ads that I have seen. Must be a low profit margin, etc.
Just seems like a stupid decision on GM's part to bring it here. But Americans aren't all that bright either. Its a big car and they think it will drink gas, so they dont buy it. And they think its just another POS pontiac like they have been shitting out for the last 20 years
It's more than the grille.
I don't think people are willing to pay more than $25k for a Pontiac, a brand they usually associate with Aztecs, Vibes, G6s and used Sunfires. But any price point under $25k would mean zero profits for GM, and cheapening the car to that point is either impossible because of the architecture or suicidal thanks to the fact that it'll give the car and the brand another black eye PLUS zero profits for GM.
And there's classic GM stupidity. The kidney grille is one. The lack of a manual transmission in this car is another. Add dealer markups plus lack of advertising and you're ready to set sail for fail. It'll be the same story for the truck, only less production numbers.
Any idea how much a Charger RT V8 costs? Because that's the car the G8 really competes with. As for Pontiac, I think the brand's had it's run. Time to take it out back and shoot it dead.
I fucking wish GM had the foresight to make it a Chevy instead and christen it the Chevelle/El Camino. That would have been awesome.
head on the nail
while auto enthusiasts know about it, no one else really does.
they will, dude.
remember, the majority of chargers are NOT SRT8s or even R/Ts
It sucks because the car is a fucking knockout.
i've been with friends and they go..
friend: "holy shit that thing is hot!"
me: "hell yeah man new pontiac g8, friggin sick "
friend: "shit it's a pontiac? "
Anybody have the sales figures? I'm curious.
That's a shame to hear, because the G8 is one of the few good "American" cars currently being made
they saw one too many sunfires.
they were posted in another thread.
It was 19,000 a month from memory.
It doesn't really matter, the brand tarnishes the car. Pontiac now sells less cars in the US than Kia does. That's how badly GM has destroyed the name.
The only suitable brand that could have moved it was Chevrolet.
That doesn't seem so bad. After 12 months they would have sold 228,000.
