if for whatever reason you dont have ammo in the gun or near it, do you think that you could be beluieveable in your bluff? or would the fact that you know you have nothign to fight back with make you give it away somehow?

i ask because of the stories i hear of intruders being subdued without firing a shot.

Even unarmed you always have something to fight back with. It's called MINDSET.

A gun without ammo makes a very poor club. Why would you have a firearm with no ammo?

Until he pulls out his gun ... :ugh:

I would never draw my weapon, unless I have full intent to use it.

But better than hurting your hands. :o

If i had no ammo, the first time he knew i had it would be when i cracked him over the head with it.

is this situation really that hard to imagine. most of us keep out guns and ammo seperate. what if you didnt have time to get said ammo? i think this is a very real possibility

There's something very unique about the sound of a shotgun racking. But if he's armed, on crack, or just a psycho...you're screwed.

Best thing IMO, call 911 and leave the phone off the hook. They have to respond to it. Next....sneak up on the fucker and nail him with a bat.

Till he hears you and turns around and empties a mag into your bat weilding self...
If I was inarmed and someone was in my house, I would go hide and call the police if possible.. its not worth a confrontation with a bat to someone you dont know if they are armed.. its not worth losing your life..

On a more serious note, when you hear about intruders subdued without a shot fired, it's generally because they surrender when faced with an armed homeowner, and no shots needed to be fired. Not because they were bluffed into thinking the gun was loaded.

I see what you are saying about the 4 rules but I don't think your conclusion is correct. I'd sure-as-shit point an empty gun at someone if that was all I had and I thought it would make them surrender or give me a few extra seconds to come up with something better. Being able to shoot someone and being willing are two different things. Pointing a loaded gun shows both will and ability; pointing an empty gun still has the will but lacks the ability.

This discussion is academic because if you have a gun for defense it needs to be LOADED.

    We'll have to disagree then.

Pointing an unloaded gun at someone WHO NEEDS TO BE SHOT might not be the smartest thing to do but it's not a violation of any of the 4 basic rules of firearms safety.
