Well, I finally got my T-1 line installed into my home this week. I had a xyplex router which was a peice of junk. So I went ahead and got a CISCO 2610 with a T-1 WIC.

I got it all setup and such. I was totally stoked to see the outrageous speed, and what do I get 200k. The highest I have seen is 450k. Ugh.. Just barely over a ISDN line.. Now, I got to call the place that has been helping me to see if they can help now figure out what is slowing me down.

I have no clue.. Anybody got some suggestions.

a (full) T1 thoughput is 1.5 Mbps (bits) so that speed sounds about right for a T1.

remember, speeds are measured in bits not bytes

I did misquote myself.. I'm sorry. I went to McAfee and used their Speed-O-meter and I got 170.32 Kbps which is just barely better than ISDN..

Well if it's a full T-1 line I should get 1500.. I don't see why I would not be able to.. There is no one else that is not using it... Am I crazy?

Well WOOT!! I talked to the guy over at the ISP and he said late last night they discovered that a client of theirs was hacked and it was sending garbage all through the network... So it was fine as of 10am this morning..

So I wasn't at home but I remote Connected to my machine and ran another speed test. With being connected (which seems to be pretty bandwith intensive I was able to get 1076 down and 1100 up.

Not too shabby now.. I wonder what it will be like directly from the machine..

I'm kinda curious about the T1 too. For an authentic T1, its costing about $199 for the local loop and $299 for the Internet access (per month). Cheap for this area, but still a bit pricey for personal use...

That's a large amount of money per month for Internet access. Cable suits my needs fine. Why did you get a T1?

If I remember the story correctly, he had a couple people living in the house with him to split the costs. Plus neither DSL nor cable was availbe in his area.

Rob is right.. Neither Cable or DSL is available at all in my area, and it looks like Cable will not be coming for a while. ::shakes fist at Adelphia::

So I have two other roommates that live with me, so we decided to go the route of a T-1 line..

It runs up $450 a month with the router... At the end of my contract I get to keep the router..

Yeah it might seem a lot of many people. But when everything in the house is spilt 3 ways.. Adding that amount is really not that big of a deal.. Or atleast to us it isn't..

I got a 2610 w/ a T-1 WIC.. They hooked me up with it for $250. Not a bad price considering what they are selling on Ebay for.. They were good to me probably because I bought a Craptastic router from Xyplex and had a ton of problems..

Contrary to what everyone else is saying, you got a kick ass deal. If I could get a deal like that (even just for that router. ;) ) I would take it.

That T1 price is good too compared to what they are around here. Sprint of FLA offers them up for the low starting price of $699 a month, without equipment etc. Synergy (local CLEC) offers up frame-relay with a frac for over $950.:uh:

 Rob, if that's still the case I have a whole long list of stuff I'm looking for. ;) Give me your address and I'll ship you a 50pk of CD's so you can get started.:x:

Well, I don't need 50 CD's worth.. but you could keep the rest.
