I just finished watching a documentary on the life of Chesty Puller and they interviewed his daughter and she said that if Chesty tried to enlist in the Corps today, he would be rejected because he was born with... asthma!

I thought that was rather interesting.

Chesty was so bad, when he did pushups, he wasn't pushing his body up, but rather pushing the Earth down.

He also received the army's equivelant of the Navy Cross, it was during Korea I believe. Can't remember what the army calls it though. So technically he has 6 of them if you count that.

Chesty said that on Guadalcanal. I think the original quote was something like "do you sum bitches want to live forever"

    Hrmmm.

In Starship Troopers, the book, there is a quote "Do you men want to live forever!" and it says "- Officer during WWI" ---- then of course they changed it in the movie to "Do you apes want to live forever?!"

    Confusion!

Chesty wasn't in WW1, I don't think he joined until right after the war ended.

    edit:
"Come on, you sons of bitches-do you want to live forever?" (Attributed to Gunnery Sergeant Dan Daly, USMC, Belleau Wood, June 1918.)

    GEN. MARK CLARK, U.S. ARMY

"The deadliest weapon in the world is a MARINE and his rifle!"
    GEN. PERSHING, US.ARMY

"I can never again see a UNITED STATES MARINE without experiencing a feeling of reverence."
    GEN. JOHNSON, U.S. ARMY

"I have just returned from visiting the MARINES at the front, and there is not a finer fighting organization in the world!"
    GEN. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, U.S. ARMY

"The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of MARINES. LORD, how they could fight!"
MAJ. GEN. FRANK LOWE, U.S. ARMY

I've heard all these quotes before, but I had NO IDEA they were said by army brass :eek3:.
