Check it out if you are intrested. She hates the recording, she thinks she did a bad job but while it wasn't the best I've heard her do I still think it is very good. It was live at a karaoke bar and she had a sore throat but she still kicked everyone's butt.

Wow dude, very nice! She has an awesome voice. For karaoke, that sounded great, better than a lot of crap you hear on the radio these days. She has been singing for a while I bet...

How does it make you feel when she sings to you like that?

She still amazes me to this day. That recording is not near her best. She was sick when we recorded that with a sore throat. You can kinda hear it in her voice a little bit. We recorded some other songs when she wasn't sick but unfortunately they were in her CD case when her car was robbed. LOL! Someone has her songs now...

As for singing a long time, she sang in High School Choir but was too shy to ever take a lead singing role. She always left it to these two other girls who had a rep around school. She didn't even get "best vocalist" because no one knew she could sing that good until she singed up for the talent show and beat those two other girls (one of which was voted best vocalist in the year book earlier). She's also self taught. She's never had an ounce of vocal coaching which I would love to get for her when I have the extra cash.

I've taken years of voice lessons and thought I'd put in my 2 cents here: She sounds good. But very nasally... which might suit certain genre's well actually (like country). However that nasal sound might just be from the cold you said she had. So it's hard to tell. But good for her for getting up infront of people and doing that! Performing has always been my weak point. I have the worst stage fright. So I have nothing but respect for her. She sounds beautiful and should definetly keep singing and pursuing her dream. Good luck to her.

No you're right she did sound a little nasally which is one reason why she hates that recording. Yes it was from being sick. I still think it is awesome.

There is a shop about 20-25 miles from my house that sells karaoke cds and such, and they also will record you too. It's not a professional recording but i'm sure it will be fair enough. I want to take her there and have her record some songs. Once I do I'll post them.

Other songs she does often are:

    Whitney Houston
    -Where do Broken Hearts Go
    -I Wanna Dance With Somebody
    -Saving All My Love
    -Greatest Love of All

    Mariah Carey
    -Hero
    -Vision of Love
    -Without You

    Christina Aguilera
    -I Turn to You
    -Beautiful
    -Reflection

    Martina McBride
    -A Broken Wing
    -How Far

    Mandy Moore
    -Cry
    -Only Hope

    LeAnn Rimes
    -How Do I Live

    -CIndy Lauper
    "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

    and many more.

I think she does Reflection the best, and when she sings How Do I Live she sounds flawless.

The song I want her to sing the most (which she fights me on) is "What A Feeling" from Flashdance.

Tell her to try out for American Idol.... she might actually make it, especially if she sounds even better than this when healthy. :eek3:

American Idol is extremely hard to get into, and it has little to do with talent. What you see on TV is not how it works. You have to audition 2 times before you even get in front of Simon, Paula, and Randy. So those people you see who suck, they are let through for entertainment purposes. 95% of the other people who don't make it to audition in front of Simon and them are the people with talent who simply weren't selected for whatever reason.

Look at Clay Aiken. He was the finalist in Season 2 yet he was rejected during his first audition. He then followed the tryouts to a second city and auditioned from the beginning again and made it through that time. If all you needed was talent to get on American Idol then there is no way they would have passed up on Clay, but they turned him down because Clay was like a ton of other singers they heard that day. They saw no reason to put him through.

After the top 12 are selected and they say on TV that these were the Top 12 out of 60,000 people or whatever, they are full of crap. Half of the people at the tryouts were better singers than people like Kellie Pickler (who I adore btw).

I definitely would like her to try out but pretty much most good singers are rejected. I wish I knew something we could do to make her stand out...

Do you have more from her?

    Bah, screw American Idol.

Have her write and sing her own music and it will feel so much more personally rewarding.

    Sounded good btw.

While I'm well aware that all of that is true, I still say that if you never try, you'll never know what MAY have happened....

She is interested in getting a recording contractr but it's very difficult. I plan on getting more soon. We did have more but her car was left unlocked at our house one night and it was robbed of all of her cd's including the ones with her on it. The only one we had left was my cd of her singing just this one song.

As far as writing her own music, she does have lyrics written down but we've never tried to put it with music and it's probably pretty amatuer. That will take more work.

I do have a plan though. I plan on getting copies like of her singing about 15-20 songs and starting a small website with pictures and these songs uploaded. Once I do that I am going to visit all of the website forums I go to in attempt to get as many email addresses from people on their (like you guys) and/or website hits. My goal would be to get as many as possible and hopefully get some recognition for it. Not that long ago a guy was on cnn.com because he was trying to get a certain number of hits for something or other and because the number he had was astronomical, he got publicity. If I can do something similar, even if on a smaller scale, who knows what may happen.

Check out the link again, I just uploaded another song. The song was sang at a benefit for fallen officers. The quality is terrible because I had to convert the VOB DVD files over to an MP3 and it didn't do a good job, plus it cut off early. Still... it's another song I get to put up there.

I also uploaded a pic I took of Katy this weekend at the lake when she's in her bikini. He11 yeah!
