Recently the provider of my cable modem decided they would put my account on hold because of a security risk due to the blaster worm. I was instructed to download all available patches for windows, which I did. And then I scanned for the virus, which I did not have. Except now my computer keeps dying whenever I open IE.

I can open one window of IE and it'll be fine, but any subsequent windows opened will crash IE, and give me an error ("IE has an encountered a problem and needs to close"). I've tried to look for an update to solve this, but as far as I can see, there is none.

If anyone has encountered this before, or knows a solution, I'd appreciate it.

Try going to ad remove programs in control pannel and seeing if internet explorer is there. Click on IE, go to ad/remove and the next screen will have a repair option there. Use that, reboot when it tells you to and that should fix it. If it doesn't show up, go to www.microsoft.com and download the IE6 setup file. Run it, then see if that fixes your problem.
