Does IE 7 have a bunch of security holes? Is IE 6 a safer browser?

I don't use either but that is what my roommate told me and I wanted to know if I can call him on it or not.

IE7 is quite a bit more secure than IE6.

IE7 is safer, but more of a pain in the ass to use. I configured it to work the way I want, and after that I just use the ieTab plugin for Firefox to open pages in IE7 inside Firefox. No more shitty user interface for me.
