...out of no where, I went to turn on my computer today and went out to the kitchen...

When I came back 5 minutes later my computer was still starting, or so I thought. It was about to start windows after the boot screen and restarted itself and now it just does that in an endless cycle until I manually turn it off.

wtf is going on? I need that shit to work... I have school and all of my papers / assignments on it, I have a midterm tomorrow and can't study for it. What's the first step to getting this thing working?

I should note that it isn't old, I reformatted a couple weeks ago, have a shit ton of protection, don't go on portn sites, etc. so it's not a virus or anything, could it be a hardware failure?

I checked all the ram and nothing changed... when I finished, I went to start it up again and now it just turns on but doesn't. As in it doesn't start anything up it just powers up and fans turn on and shit but doesn't even attempt to load windows and I can't turn it off unless I use the main power switch in the back.

    GG.

    EDIT: I'm so fucked

Either Three things are happening here.

    1. PSU died (Would be the easiest to fix)
    2. Motherboard died :)ugh:)
    3. PSU died and took the motherboard with it (Minus whale build a new PC)

Regardless your hardrive is probably fine, find someone you can take your harddrive to and copy the files off of.

The endless restarting was a BSOD. Normally I would say hard drive or a software/OS issue, but since you can't even boot to the system BIOS at this point its prob MB

Damn, I guess I'll take it in to my local shop... maybe they'll let me drop the HD into one of their stock machines so I can grab my stuff off it.

I don't think it's from overheating, so something must have blown out : /

I'll let you guys know what they say.

    Update:

I got the computer to actually start up again, however it is still restarting itself... at least it's trying though :)mamoru:).

Why the hell would you bring it to a local shop? So that they can charge you 80 dollars for an "hour" (5 minutes) of work only to tell you that you need a new motherboard?

Just buy a $40 motherboard on newegg and be done with it.

PS. I used to work in a computer repair shop... they are scams that prey on the ignorant, I felt bad taking so much money for so little work most of the time.

My shit is on warranty from them... I built it with all of the parts from their shop (prices were about the same as new egg + free warranty + no shipping = win).

If you install over your current installation you will lose only what is in windows directories... including program files and your "my documents" folder, your desktop, things like that, which is why I don't keep anything in any of those folders.

FIXED! I tried about 30 times and on the 31st, I got it to boot in safemode and grabbed my files and shit... then put in the windows disk and loaded up an old as s restore point. It's working now but who knows how long since I never found out the problem.

Did you ever find out if it was blue screening? Hit F8 on startup and select disable restart on system failure. It will halt the machine on the blue screen if there is one. Post up what it says.

    UPDATE:

So I did another system restore and it's working for now... I was thinking back and it was about the time that I installed utorrent both times I've been messed up.

Oddly enough a few others have been having utorrent issues for whatever reason causing bsod's.

I really couldn't guess why, but maybe I'll have to stay away from it for a while....

in for an alternative torrent downloader (hoping that's the problem):x:

I've had that happen before with nothing more than some error on the hard drive. Formatted it, and it runs flawless ever since.
