A Rosston, Ark., couple are suing Smith & Wesson in federal court because of a serious injury allegedly caused by a .460 Magnum revolver.

Todd Brown bought an S&W .460 Magnum revolver last fall. When he tried using it to shoot a deer the day after Christmas, gases escaping from the gun’s barrel severed his thumb, the suit alleges.

“Todd then lowered the gun to see if he had hit the deer, and as he was looking for the deer in the moments following the shot he saw blood shooting up in the air and on his gun and clothes, and he looked and saw that his thumb had been severe...

Where's the pics from the guy that did it and posted on a forum? Looks like it hurts.

The cylinder gap can do it, don't shoot revolvers thumbs forward :big grin:

  6. I know a guy that did something similar to this. He was teaching his daughter how to shoot a gun and was using a revolver. She had her hands on the grip and he had his hands around hers. His index finger ended up right at the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. When she fired it put a big slice in his finger, it was pretty gross when you could see the blood and fat pushing out of the gash in his finger.

As long as you use proper grip technique you'll keep all your digits. Not a big revolver person myself but everyone should have atleast a .357 snubby

if you hold an auto wrong, you can lose a thumb too. They both have their hazards. I wouldn't give up my wheel guns for anything.

i didn't know that about revolvers. i've cut the skin between the thumb and pointing finger when closing the slide on a semi auto pistol manually though, but I just wasn't paying enough attention, totally my fault.
