I'm thinking about getting an ICON Domain2 or Airframe Rubatone helmet and I just wanted some OT'er opinions.

From other sites I've browsed there seem to be two distinct schools, they're great for the price, albeit a bit noisy, or they are utter and complete pieces of crap

I have two Icons and like them alot. I ran into a lady at the homedepot and she was talking about bikes to me ( was on my wife's 600rr at the time) and she when down and had a Icon lid said it flow off her head and she always had it strapped down tight so Just a FYI but I never had any issues with the Icon lids.

They are great helmets. The new ones have great ventilation and nice liners.

Some of the best helmets I've ridden in.

I have an ICON mainframe -- it's the best helmet I've used so far. The main thing is to get a helmet that fits right.

I'm not a huge fan of icon either... then again I'm not really a fan of any company that plasters a HUGE logo all over every item they sell.

Icon seems like a "glam brand" of cycle equipment to me. Not that it's of poor quality or unsafe or anything, I just don't want to be a huge rolling advertisement. It reminds me of all the tools I see walking around with shirts that say "HOLLISTER" on the front in huge letters.

    Not for me, IMHO.

If it fits you comfortably and can wear it all day long, then it's a good helmet.
Too many people get caught up in the "bling" factor and think if it's not a SHOEI or Arai, then it's junk.
Is it DOT rated? does it fit? then it's a good helmet.

better than no helmets and while they don't have the chinbar, they are still able to protect the rest of your head. It's all about personal choice.
I personally wear only modulars myself

I checked some of those out. The shop near me only had the HJC modular and the Shoei Multitec. The HJC seemed super cheap. The bits of the helmet that actually clip to keep it closed looked like they'd break if I pulled on them too hard... I wouldn't want that hitting the ground and breaking open if I fell on it just right. The Shoei was MUCH nicer (all metal components on the locking mechanisms), but more expensive and they didn't have one in my size - so I ended up getting a full face and calling it good.

i currently have 3 ICON helmets, two Mainframes and one Domain.... i love all of them.
great ventilation, great fitment for my head. as far as the noise factor goes, i ride a v-twin with exhaust so i wear earplugs so i cant really tell you.

the last lid i had was an Arai. great helmet but i felt raped when i paid for it

Dude bycicle helmets are dot aproved would you ride with a bicycle helmet cause you can ride with it all day long, its light and has good ventilation? yes those are all important things to have when you ride but thats not all come on have you seen what happens when your wearing a beanie dot helmet when they go down, cause its not a pretty sight

DOT is a minimum standard. I don't about you but I feel my head is worth more then the bare minimum
