I saw that wrestling thing a while ago with this huge guy that runs with logs and he said he took ice baths after working out. I then researched it and found a lot of people that swear by it but not too much research has gone into it. Does anybody on here do it? ANybody with experience know if it has the same benefits for joints/tendons as it does for muscles?

in college i had back probs so after wrestling practice i'd jump into the cold bath in our athletic dept and it was like heaven. if i had a bigger bathtub i'd probably come home from the gym and jump in still. don't know about any medical studies or anything but it always calmed my back down when it was cramping up and sore after practice.

they're good. as are contrast showers (hot cold hot cold). i'd use half a bag during track season per bath.

there was a ton of ice, the trainers always had the tubs ready for a few of us who always seemed to need them lol. tons of ice, extemely cold, to the point that it wasn't comfortable to be in, but it was worth it cause you felt so much better when you got out

Shit, I would have to be in SERIOUS pain to even consider getting into an ice bath.

only time i ever did it was when i was in serious pain (which was pretty much after every damn practice). but to be honest it would feel nice whenever ya tweak a muscle a bit. this thread is making me want to remodel my bathroom and get a bigger tub lol

i hear about that a lot in movies, when actors are training

keanu reeves did it when he was training for the matrix

hugh jackman did it when he was training for the fountain
he had to get into full lotus position, which is where your feet are on top of your lap. In order to get limber enough to do that, he would go swimming in ice water for a little bit and then go into the sauna and do some stretches and yoga.. and then do it all over again

my gym coach mentioned this to me before, he said that it helps tremendously with the healing process

i've been trying out cold shower, but sometimes its too much and i chicken out.. how long are you supposed to be in the freeze?

I've never doen it but would like to try it. I have some friends that have done it, they say it really speeds up recovery. I like the contrast showers and do them often in the summer time.

I do it post workout or on a recovery day. It also flushes the blood in and out of the organs and helps remove toxins.

I do that all the time... didn't actually know it had a benefit. I just thought it felt good.

my traps and upper back have been getting really sore lately so the other day i tried a contrast shower where i has the water really hot, then i went to really cold for like 15 seconds, then back to hot, then back to cold

it felt fucking weird. seemed to help the soreness but that could just be in my head

If you don't feel like total immersion get a 10lb bag of ice or 2 and cover the required area. It's not quite the same but it does work.

Closest I've ever gotten to an ice bath was during the hurricanes when we didn't have hot water.

One of my friends wanted me to do the polar bear plunge with her, but I declined. Maybe I should have done it right after one of my workouts.
