Hi, my computer lately is just too slow and laggy. i have a ThinkPad T42 Series laptop. i dont use it to game or anything just mainly photoshop, itunes, ie, etc. currently i have 512 ram, im thinking about just upgrading it to 1gb.
    i found this website:
    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=8FD56A3831D926C3&tabid=&pagen ame=
i dont know a lot about ram etc. or the specs. Do you guys know any good deals? or sites that have the right specs for my ram? The avgerage price seems to be around 50? Also how much of a change will i see in my computer? from the start up to running multiple programs? thanks

another question: i currently have one slot with 512 and the other slot empty, if i add a 1gb, will my computer recongize it? or it has to be eitehr 512 and 512, or 1gb and 1gb

that laptop has a single-channel memory controller. Go get a 1GB Corsair 333MHz SO-DIMM from newegg and call it a day.

I doubt he needs that. Just uninstalling a bunch of ancillary crap that he never uses and then thoroughly defragging the HDD should speed it up nicely. Dumping the internet cache will help, too.
