I zapped my ethernet port on my MBP

    I plugged my MBP into the ethernet cord from our conference phone at work... little did I know that cisco has a nonstandard power over ethernet spec that will fry the shit out of your network card.

    Think my AppleCare will come through on this? :x:

    If you go in and say "Hey, for some reason my ethernet port isn't working" Then they'll look at it and determine what it is, then probably replace it for you

    Yeah don't tell them how you did it as that will be deemed an accident and you aren't covered. There are cases out there where the ports stop working. I think broken ethernet ports still require a full logicboard replacement and you don't want to be paying for that.

    does it smell bad? my friend did that with his pc and it fries a small transformer and stinks like shit.

    Actually the IT guy was in the room and said "I SMELL BURNING ELECTRONICS" :mamoru:

    edit: this was last month and it doesn't smell anymore, although it lasted like a week

    You know, now that I think of it, the last time I used my ethernet port was.... January, when I couldn't use a wireless router.
