    Suggestions? Tips? It's easy to know what and how to teach adults but kids are different. Should be fun though. They should like my collection of Assault Rifles :bowdown:

    Shoot one of them right off the bat to show them; a) you mean business b) firearms are dangerous.

    As long as I don't pull one of these I'll consider it a success.

    google NRA's eddie eagle.

    and you're going to teach them without being taught how to teach?

    I'm a cop in a small town. So we don't have the budget or man power to be trained in everything imaginable or have special positions for stuff like this. Once a year we take a day to teach firearms safety to little kids. We don't get much time with each group, it's part of some safety day thing.

    Thnx for the eddie eagle idea though, I'll look it up.

    neat, good luck!
    i teach middle schoolers, and the biggest hazard really is the 'class clown' who has a wise comment for everything you say. i've found that the best way to deal with that is to stop class on the first interruption, and bring him/her to the front. invite him/her to talk all he wants, so that he gets it out of his system.
    public embarrassment always works!

    also, they say that the attention span of children is equal to their age, in minutes. So, ten year olds (4/5th graders) will give you about 10 minutes of attention before you need to 'change gears' and talk about (or do) something else.

    perhaps a safety activity of some sort? have students get in pairs, and clean all your guns? you know, for uhh... educational purposes

    They don't learn fast so you're gonna need more than one session (through repetition).

    Raise your hand, leave it alone, call an adult. That's about all a kid should do with firearms safety. You can't teach all kids how to inspect and clear a weapon properly and expect all of them to do it properly but all of them can be smart enough to leave it alone. +1 on Eddie Eagle.

    easy class: don't fucking touch them without your parents showing you how, and if you find a gun, dont fucking touch it and get an adult to take care of it.

    it's true- if you can keep their attention, they're more likely to learn something
