My copy of VS.Net went sour for some reason and I dont feel like *purchasing* a new copy.

The company I work for has it on their network, and I'd like to just copy it over to my pc. Can I just run a normal eithernet cable from the PC to the laptop and change some settings around, or what all do I have to do?

what do you mean by "has it on their network". do you mean they have the actual cd image files, or they have an already-installed version?

if they have the cd image files, just copy them over to your laptop.

if it's an already-installed version you can't just copy it straight to another computer and have it work - there's a lot of registry and other crap that gets done when installing vs.net that's more than just copying files.

for direct computer<->computer ethernet connections, you'll need a "crossover" ethernet cable. this is different than patch ethernet cable that is more commonly used (i.e. to connect your work computer to the wall or hub.)

alright... its not image files thats on the server, its like 1.8gb directory of the installation packages and whatever. i could copy it to my PC from the network, then to my lappy from the PC.

i could just plug my lappy into the network but they told me not to :sad2:
