Concealed carry is illegal in WI, open carry is legal.

I'm sick of being expected to depend on someone else for protection. The police dont have a consitutional duty to protect me but my constitutional right to bear arms is looked down upon? Bullshit. Time to take responsibility for my life.

Worst part about this is that I'm going into this knowing that I'll be arrested and I'll have to pay for a lawyer just to fight a bullshit disorderly conduct arrest.

Know the laws well, have a lawyer on speed-dial, and don't play games with cops; they don't like that.

Good luck, but you should be fine if you're remotely smart about it.

The two guys that I know of open carrying here got hit pretty hard. Few blocks away from my house. Took a year to get their blasters back.

damn, that seriously sucks. Do the local cops just have an anti-gun-owner hardon or something?

In WI you're supposed to be allowed to CC if its your own land or you have the owners permission. So yeah, its ridiculous.

I'm building up towards it. It's hard when you know an arrest is imminent and you work full time and go to school.

Print out and carry with you a pamphlet of some kind that contains the exact quoted law, any relevant court cases, and any other information you can find.
This could turn out to be very usefull.

And CC on your own property, at least. I don't remember if that extends to all private property or not.

Being in the Milwaukee area as well, I would only recommend doing this if you know what you are in for (and you do).

I open carry at my house; haven't yet done it other places. However, my neighbors see me coming home with all my gear and uniform on, so I don't think they're going to call the cops on me :hsugh:

I'm not exactly encouraging you to just conceal, but if you do it well with a good-sized concealable pistol, who's ever going to know? :coolugh: If you have to use it, you have a pretty solid case that the state's interest in barring you from carrying weapons was less than your interest in your personal safety, and that's all you need to show based on both Hamdan and Vegas.

I was going to put together a little laminated card with the law on it, as well as Doyle's quote saying "if you're going to carry a firearm, do it legally and OC"

also realize it's going to be a PITA if you're driving around and feel like OCing everywhere you go. You'll have to unload and put in its case everytime you are driving, then load, put in the holster, each time you get out to OC.

Like I have said, to each their own but the chance of getting caught CCWing here, is slim to non if you're a law-abiding citizen.

    that's my .02

carry a printout of the law/statute that allows you to OC- printout the second amendment, and then it's up to the cop to provide a law infringing on that

The biggest worry you have OC'ing is the jack booted thugs who don't know the law - by far the biggest threat to anyone who OC's

Get yourself a digital voice recorder, preferably one that is chargable. Do NOT go anywhere without it. There are also services out there that allow you to call, from your cell phone, and have the call recorded on a server (Google Voice I believe allows this). That way, no "accidental deleting" of your digital recordings can occur (check in WI too if one person conscent is necessary for recordings).

You now have case law backing you up thanks to the guy that just got off for OC'ing in his yard.

But, even in VA where OC'ers have been very proactive, we still have issues. Cops are dumb and don't know all the law they are enforcing (kind of ironic citizens have to know every single law, but not cops).

    Best of luck, be safe.
