I have about $1000 to play with after doing some research here and on the net I'm leaning towards the canon rebel XT body with a nice lens. I like the XTI a friend of mine has one but is it worth the extra $150-200 for 2 more megapixels?

I've had digital cameras but never anything fancy so I'm lost as to which lens I should look into :dunno: I want something good to start out with and I'll upgrade later to something even better. Should I go with something like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...191&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation then buy an extra lens or buy the XT body and spend more on a lens? Oh I'll mostly be shooting people, landscape, architecture at this point

    edit: sorry reading >> me

If I were you I'd get the XTi body (400D i think)

You will want more features after about 3 months with the camera

I'm looking for opinions b/c I'm a DSLR noob...I liked the canon I played with it was small and light, Nikons are nice too but a little big and more expensive

Im a canon user, but if you want something small and light then the Nikon D40 would be the go.

Hell, even my old Pentax DSLR was tiny in comparison to what Im using now and it was a faithful servant.

The nikons should be about the same money but they are a little bigger (kinda nice if you ahve big hands)

i plan on returning the package and getting it cheaper from somewhere else + a tamron 17-50/2.8 or switching over to a canon 30d.
