I'm saving $300 this year from cutting a few things out, in fact, I've already saved that money.

The only firearm I own is a .22LR (Ruger 10/22). I'm 21 so I could purchase a handgun, but I feel that I'll probably get one donated to me by my father once I'm back home and get my CCL.

So, for $300, what rifle would you buy as your first non-.22 rifle?

    Save some more.

I picked up a Ruger M77 in .270 and its pretty sweet. I think I paid about $550-$575 for it.

Not really feeling like that, I'd rather a real rifle.

Could I get a good Mosin for that price?

Why not save and buy an AR? :)

But for $300? :dunno: What do you want to use it for? If you want to hunt you could get a bolt action .308 of your choice. If you're just shooting targets and you don't plan on buying an AR in the future, maybe a Ruger mini 14 (a little more than $300 though.) But without knowing what you're going to use it for I'll wait before throwing out any more recommendations.

    I'd buy a WASR, but I'm a sucker for AR/AK series rifles.

i would definitely get an official Red Ryder carbine action, 200 shot, Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.

Sounds like for a general all around good gun for 300 for plinking and self defence an AK is something everyone should have in their arsenal.
