WHat does it take? I am currently 24 and in college and I want to be a pilot. I would like to fly a fighter jet but would also realy enjoy flying the larg bombers like the b-1, b-2 or the b-52. Would appreciate any help, thanks.

because it gives you the best chance. if you would like to increase your chances maintain a 4.0 gpa. if you can keep that then we'll talk from there.

I want to be a pilot too. Good luck.

You'll need to commission. ROTC is one way, OTS is another. Good luck with either - they're not accepting many new people now. Talk to a recruiter to get information/contact for either one. you need to take the AFOQT, take the basic aptitude test. your AFOQT, BAT, and recommendation letters, and a few other things like a very intense physical, determine how competitive you are. A selection board meets once a year.

He's already in college -- doubt he'll want to try and go through the arduous task 1) getting in 2) of starting over again at the academy.

I know i was being sarcastic because of all the officer cuts going on, even ROTC detachments are not getting pilot slots. AFA is the way to go if you want to be a fighter jock.

Probably too old for the Academy. And it's also late to be starting flight school.

Way too old for the Academy. As long as he commissions and enters flight school before 30, he's fine. That being said, what year of college are you in?

well get some flight hours, whats your gpa, masters has little bearing at OTS boards and masters GPA is not computed, take AFOQT, then apply for the board....wait months and months hope you get one of about 500 total OTS slots for the whole year (200 might be pilots), then get flight physical wait wait wait to see if that clears, then if it clears wait wait wait for a OTS class date.

I am currently signing up to get my pilot license. I use to be a cadet in the civil air patrol and got flight time there but not really documented. My GPA is around 3.5 but I want my masters as a personal goal of mine. Should I apply while in school or do I have to wait?

you can apply 270 days out from getting you bachelors
    [IMG]
that table is from the board that just released results about a week ago, those are the averages of all the pilot selects. take the AFOQT and you can get a better idea. But selections go on a whole person concept leadership history, job history, letters of reccomendation, personal statment all are considered in selection

like I said, its a very long process, me personally I was selected as a Nav, but the first board I met was last Jan, I was not selected as most first time board people were not, next board I was selected results were supposed to be out in early may it was delayed till April. Had my flight physical in June, found it cleard and got a class date in Sept. and leave end of this month (but many selects from April have not even had there flight physicals cleared yet and probably wont get to OTS till March or May of 2007)

Word to the wise... don't Enlist first. I came in at 18 and am in flight school now. Got picked up for OTS at 24 and it wasn't easy. Should be getting my wings in March!
