    I got to play with the 55-200vr and 18-135 at ritz today. I fucking love the VR and I want it on my 18-55 kit lens. Do I justify spending the $650 on the 18-200 when I can get a 55-200 for $350?

    I really want a nice walk around lens that I can take on a bike ride downtown, a walk through the woods, or a small party.

    Is swapping lenses really worth the $300 difference?

    going on a D40 btw

    the 55-200 VR isn't a good walk around lens, or for parties, the 18-55 is great for those type of shots.

    also, nikon has a 18-55 VR for $199 and i think they will release a 16-85 VR soon. personally i am interested in the 16-85 VR, sounds like a great lens

    the perfect walkaround lens is a 10-500mm f1.4 lens.

    I love mine:bowdown::coolugh::o

    I've been looking in to a 10-1200, but I don't know if I can afford to feed and clothe the small team of midgets on stilts that come with it.

    18-200VR is what you're looking for the walkaround.

    For small parties, especially low-light indoor ones, invest in a 50mm f/1.8

    I <3 the 18-200mm, alot of people do not like it. But here is an image I took in Texas when the 18-200mm first came out, and it was a handheld image. No tripod. :) Also remember the 18-200mm VR Nikkor has a zoom creep between 50 - 135 due to the fact the lens element weighs so much..

    I don't use my camera professionally. I just want a lens that will cover a lot of the activities I do. I hate the thought of taking off my lens.

    you can get the 55-200mm vr for $220 on amazon. the 18-55 vr is 200 but i don't think you'll need it . it is optically equal to the kit lens.
