how are they going to be obsolete? if anything, they'll juts release bigger ones. the updates to the iPhone don't seem to have anything that would carry over to the iPod since it is mostly 3G and other data shit like GPS that probably wouldn't come in the iPod.

i've got a touch and i love it. i jailbroke it and i installed a bunch of little games to play on the bus on the way home from work.

eh... they will be revamped soon.. if not new colors, at least some new functions...

the price on them is gonna drop as well... i mean it has too, right now an iphone is 199 and an ipod touch is 299... thats not going to last (and yes we all know the iphone comes with a plan but still)

that argument will make sense when the Touch comes with a contractual obligation to buy 60 songs a month from iTunes for the next 2 years.

keep dreaming buddy. There will be very difference between the current touch and the next-gen touch. IMO it won't be anymore more than an increase in size. I wouldn't expect much of a price drop, if any, either.

:werd: Apple is offering the new iPhone at a lower price only because AT&T gives them a kickback for each contract they get someone locked into. Not the case on the iPod Touch.

Not sure what fancy new features you think they'll be adding to the next one. Look at what the new iPhone has and it's pretty obvious there isn't much to add. Maybe they add GPS but doubtful since it doesn't have 3G access to download the maps (Garmin and TomTom will likely have the maps loaded onto the device but I wouldn't think Apple would include GPS just to help out 3rd party developers).

The price is not going to drop. The iphone does not compete with the touch. You can't get one without a contract (yet) and having a credit card to pay, which cuts out a large portion of people who buy ipods. The non-plan ones are going to be $599 and $699 and we don't even know when they'll be available.

The touch is the "high end" ipod. They have an ipod at just about every $50 interval. They're not going to drop prices and cut into the sales of the classic and they're not going to drop the prices on the entire ipod line. If anything they'll introduce a 64gb at the current 32gb price and drop the 8gb model completely (replace it with the 16gb).
