i have so many old shirts (early 80s) that say size XL and fit on me like a really small medium, now ive got a couple of new shirts in size L that are too big, what do i do other than wait like 15 years

You should know the size of people have changed between the 80s and now.
in less words, obesity was not an epidemic in yesteryear.

    .

depending on the type of fabric this should shrink them a decent amount.

Yea, but keep in mind, once you throw it in the wash, you can't control how it shrinks.

I've had plenty-a shirt shrink vertically but not horizontally so it makes it look like i'm wearing a belly shirt.

where i was, if you hung them out to "dry" during the summer, it's likely you'd come back to find them not only still damp, but moldy
